So how good are your resulting copies?
Last updated 17/07/2008

I am just an individual doing this work because I enjoy the distraction and want to give something back to society. My equipment is not of professional standard. Having said that is it better than a standard video converter. See my equipment page for more details.

The end results are probably on a par with what you would get if you took a video and copied it on two VCR's. There is an important difference though. The PAL format is 625 lines of image at 25 frame per second. The NTSC format is 525 lines at 30 frames per second. This means that when converting from PAL to NTSC an extra 5 frames need to be invented. When doing the reverse 5 frames are lost. Thus if the picture is panning or you see titles scrolling up the screen you might see a slight stuttering effect. I find this easy to spot but I know from talking to customers this is not normally a problem for them. There is certainly little that can be done to my knowledge. I now get less of this problem than when I had tapes converted professionally and my HOLDAN KDV-500 Digital System Converter has significantly reduced this problem compared to the standard conversion of my video converters.

Sometimes people would like me to convert tapes that are not first generation. I am always happy to take a look at a job and if I feel I can not be of help I just return the tape or sometimes do the best I can for the customer for just cost of materials and postage.

I have a surprisingly high level of return customers so general satisfaction seems high.
